Sacred Games Netflix Trailer
It starts as Sartaj Singh (Played By Saif Ali Khan) who is a devoted and honest cop in the Mumbai Police Department working on a case of the killing of a teenager by the cops, because of deep-rooted corruption he faces two choices either confirm the lie that the kid was armed and threatening officers or take the entire blame on him.
The story takes an unexpected turn by having Singh get contacted by a gangster from Mumbai’s past, Ganesh Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), who has been missing and thought was dead for 15 years. Gaitonde tells Singh that he has 25 days to save Mumbai before everybody in it will die, then Gaitonde’s story is narrated in flashback as Gaitonde rises from street beggar to feared slum gangster. As Radhika Apte’s, a foreign intelligence officer, seems to have a bigger story from the beginning.
“India is seeing the biggest and fastest investment in content for any country we have launched in,”
– said Erik Barmack, Netflix’s vice-president of international originals.
Other Netflix series
Other Netflix series in the works include “Leila,” about an Indian woman searching for her lost daughter; “Ghoul,” a horror series based on Arabic folklore and set in a covert detention centre; and young adult murder mystery “Crocodile.”
Sacred Games was shot on different real locations as it was set in a period, which Motwane expressed was a “huge logistical challenge”. While the novel was set in 1993, the series was changed to the year 2004.
Anurag Kashyap had read the novel in 2006 when it came out and in 2014, was approached by AMC from Scott Free Productions for a series in English. Kashyap declined the offer as he did not want to do “anything based in India, in English”.
According to HollywoodReporter, if Sacred Gamescan get even a fraction of the available Indian market hooked on its small-screen storytelling, that alone will validate Netflix’s expansion plans
